If you have visited the Smoky Mountains multiple times, then you are surely aware that there are always new things to do popping up here in the area! That is why we wanted to take a moment and share some information about the new things to do in Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg that are coming in 2026, including new rides, opportunities to observe natural beauty, and more. Let’s get started:

1. NightFlight Expedition at Dollywood

First up, we have one of the most hotly anticipated new things to do in Pigeon Forge in 2026… the brand-new ride at Dollywood! NightFlight Expedition will be the world’s very first indoor hybrid coaster and whitewater river rafting ride, with elements of roller coasters, water rides, and immersive storytelling. The track is nearly three stories high and the coaster reaches speeds up to 29 miles per hour, so you will want to make sure to stop by when it opens in Spring 2026!

2. New Scenic Lift at Anakeesta + More

Next up, we have some exciting new things to do in Gatlinburg that are developing over at Anakeesta! In Spring 2026, they will be opening a brand-new scenic lift with 56 cabins, glass bottoms, and wrap-around windows for stunning views of the Smokies. And that’s not all, Anakeesta will also be debuting a reimagined version of Firefly Village, a new scenic overlook, and an expansion to the iconic Treetop Skywalk that will offer more views than ever before.

3. Guided Firefly Hikes

Yet another of the new things to do in Gatlinburg in 2026 is to embark on a guided hike to see the Blue Ghost and synchronous fireflies of the Smoky Mountains with A Walk in the Woods, a company that has been offering guided hikes in the area for years. In 2026, they are expanding and adding several new guided tours to allow visitors to see the spectacular Blue Ghost and synchronous fireflies in programs that feature an emphasis on conservation, as well as options that include full wilderness immersion.

4. Laurel Falls Trail

Laurel Falls

Okay, we know that this is not technically a “new” thing to do in the Smoky Mountains, but since Laurel Falls has been closed to the public since 2025, we count its reopening as a new and exciting thing here in the area! Laurel Falls Trail was closed in January 2025 for planned improvements, including replacing old asphalt, expanding the parking area, and adding new viewing areas. The National Park Service plans to open the improved Laurel Falls Trail around July 2026, so if you have been missing this iconic area, then you will be thrilled to hear that it is reopening in 2026!
